EXCUSE ME…
-Where is
the universe from?
-Who lit the fuse
to the Big Bang?
-What existed
before time?
-What existed
before man?
-Who’s that watching
from inside the mountain?
-Savior?
devil?
mirage?
-Who are those four riders
in the sky?

I humbly request –

my writing hand,
toward a flowering

SIG ALERT
(‘Sig alert’ is a Los Angeles term; means heavy
traffic congestion. Wrote this in ’98.)

Life & The Dream,
on a collision course…
head-on crash
on Route 98,
nothing but twisted
ego parts,
strewn across the cosmos,
at the intersection
of eternal happiness
& a pimple in the ass.

(back in ’91 the doctor told me I had the “Big C”, prostate style;
I underwent 38 radiation treatments at UCLA; while waiting my turn
for one of them I scribbled a few notes, thinking of what I was going
through, and feeling perhaps a little despondent. I ended up writing about
the experience… and the fear.)

Death…
a patient crocodile
in my private lagoon,
devours the feast
before the dish is served,
poet-meat,
pre-seasoned delicacy,
to be savored rare,
a molecule at a time,
hope by hope,
despair by despair.
INNER SEARCH
(these two are from ’70 or ’71; they were part of 50 poems that
I read in 10 minutes, at the Iguana Café, back in ’90 or so; that
was the night I met the late, great Dr. Noah Young, who was playing
bass that night, with his jazz trio. Bless that guy!)

looking for myself,
and, there I was…
looking for something!

TO BE REVISED
Two hundred and twenty-seven million,
one hundred and thirty-two thousand,
nine hundred and three
soldiers killed.
