SUMMER DESERT ROAD

with 20 bales of quiet hay
for cows that don’t care –

-1 mile to Wild Wash Road,
2 campers, a silver Toyota,
37 acres of sand for sale –

-Victorville,
where everyone peels
their own potatoes –

-The ravished hills cringe…
the Yamahas are coming!
the Yamahas are coming!

-A stranded motorist
calls the nearest savior,
smoke rises from under the hood
in homage to the eternal
combustion engine.
