THE OPERATION

– Friday, January 8th,
five minutes late
for my eyelid operation
to remove a benign lump.
– Dr. Goodman is great!
Under local anesthesia
I hardly feel any pain,
& when I think he’s
getting started,
he tells me he’s done!
– What a relief!
– Then, panic!
For a couple of minutes
I get this awful feeling
that he’s going to say,
“Sorry… I forgot something.”
& start digging again!
– Luckily,
it was just my eye-magination.
